As a minority, it's a way of proving yourself to the white upper class, for whom getting an Ivy League education is all part and parcel with their private schools.
That said, I agree. I don't think an Ivy League education is what matters. Sure, I wouldn't mind going to Harvard for my PhD, but I got a damn good education at my undergrad and I'm getting an even better one at my grad school. |
