Re: Better Luck Tomorrow? It Depends On You (Score: 1) by DEFTS on Saturday, April 19 @ 02:12:28 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | Yeah... too bad. I agree that this movie won't have a huge impact. This movie was geared toward Asian Americans. I just watched this movie this afternoon; about 95% of the people in the same screening were Asian. And I think that's why this movie probably won't change the non-Asian views of Asians, at least not directly.
Incredible, I'm glad so many Asians are deciding to support this movie. It's good inspiration for upcoming actors/actresses.
Don't worry, nht, I think you'll enjoy this movie. Maybe you’ll not like it for the plot, but definitely for that fact that Asians are now three dimensional on the big screen.
I liked this movie, and my friends that I brought with me liked it too. |

Re: Better Luck Tomorrow? It Depends On You (Score: 1) by Allenby on Sunday, April 20 @ 20:17:39 EDT (User Info | Send a Message) | I agree that it is pretty unlikely that BLT itself will directly affect the way that many non APA people view APA. As others have pointed out, the majority of the audiences thus far have been APAs, and unless this movie becomes an indie-blockbuster like "My big Fat Greek Wedding or Blair Witch, chances are there will never be a large number (nationally speaking) of people who will see this movie.
That being said, I think that the success of BLT will likely have a strong effect on the chances that other movies will be made featuring APAs in decent roles. It will be the next movie, and the movie after that which may begin to shift the APA image. But if BLT doesn't succeed, it is possible that we will have to wait a very long time for those next movies.
The success of BLT is only a single step. But without this step, the road will be that much harder and longer. |
