Criminal Complaint
In the Suffolk County Superior Court, Commonwealth of Massachusetts
1988
 |
| Mark Wahlberg dated Asian American actress China Chow
after co-starring with her in the 1998 movie The Big Hit. |
At approximately 9:00 p.m. on April 8, 1988 Thanh Lam, a Vietnamese adult
male who resides in Dorchester, traveled by car to 998 Dorchester Avenue,
Dorchester, Massachusetts. At 998 Dorchester Avenue, Thanh Lam left his
car carrying two cases of beer. As he crossed the sidewalk, Mark Wahlberg
attacked Thanh Lam. Wahlberg was carrying a large wooden stick,
approximately five feet long and two to three inches in diameter. Wahlberg
approached Thanh Lam calling him a "Vietnam fucking shit," then hit
him over the head with the stick. Thanh Lam was knocked to the ground
unconscious. Th[e] stick broke in two and was later recovered from the
scene. Thanh Lam was treated overnight at Boston City Hospital.
After police arrested Wahlberg later on the night of April 8, 1988, Wahlberg
was informed of his rights and returned to the scene of 998 Dorchester
Avenue. In the presence of two police officers, he stated: "You don't
have to let him identify me, I'll tell you now that's the mother-fucker who's
head I split open," or words to that effect.
As a police officer arrived at the scene of 998 Dorchester Avenue, Wahlberg
and two other youths who were with him fled up Dorchester Avenue toward Pearl
Street.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 8, 1988, Hoa Trinh, an adult Vietnamese male
who resides in Dorchester, was standing several blocks away from 998 Dorchester
Avenue, near the corner of Dorchester Avenue and Pearl Street. Hoa Trinh
was not aware of the altercation outside of 998 Dorchester Avenue.
Wahlberg ran up to Hoa Trinh, put his arm around Hoa Trinh's shoulder, and
said: "Police coming, police coming, let me hide." After a
police cruiser passed, Wahlberg punched Trinh in the eye, causing him to fall to
the ground.
Police arrived and Hoa Trinh identified Wahlberg as the person who punched
him. Wahlberg was placed under arrest and read his rights.
Thereafter he made numerous unsolicited racial statements about
"gooks" and "slant-eyed gooks." After being returned
to 998 Dorchester Avenue, Wahlberg identified Thanh Lam as the person he hit
over the head with a stick.
Trinh lost one of his "slanted" eyes due to the attack.
Wahlberg plead guilty to two counts of criminal contempt, was sentenced to two
years imprisonment, and was released after 45 days. Although Wahlberg
describes his incarceration as a "turning point" in his life, to this
day he continues to deny that race played a role in either attack.

Re: Mark Wahlberg's ''Turning Point'' (Score: 1) by rover on Saturday, November 30 @ 14:42:13 EST (User Info | Send a Message) | I read something about this before and actually this doesn't surprise me. It's funny how people will make exceptions for some while hating the rest of the group. According to the complaint, Wahlberg didn't even know the people whom he attacked. I'm also trying hard to remember something here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the same guy who back in the late 80s, made a rap song about some WM in Boston who killed his pregnant wife and blamed it on a black guy? If so, it makes you wonder how Wahlberg could make a song about racism yet perpetuate it himself.
I think that it's funny how China Chow could date a guy with obvious anti-Asian sentiments. Since Chow is hapa, did Wahlberg ignore her "Asianness" for the white side? And for China Chow , how does she see herself? This has relevance in that if she really doesn't see herself as Asian but merely exploits it for publicity, then her attitude toward her Asian brothers and sisters (and other people of color for that matter) will be quite unflattering. |

I don't care for Dumberg anyways! His movie sucks. I went to watch a movie with him and Chow Yun Fat. I only watched the movie because of Chow Yun Fat!
And his only ONE hit wonder sucked too!

It's not right for him to walk out prison after 45 days. I guess money talk, and the rest of the matter is pretend as nothing happen.
I'm appologize for anyone that do not like my comment above about cut someone throat. But that is how I express about my anger toward racism, and especially someone use violence hate.

i repeat: this was 15 years ago. its prt of his past. when you grow up in an area where this is normal, you cant expect him to act different then most of his friends. we are molded by society.
he admits he was wrong and said he wanted to change and as far as i can tell, he has so leave the guy alone and give him a break.
i may be a "gook" but at least i can forgive the guy.
all respect to mark wahlberg and i hope these silly stories stop being posted on this site. its not fair. |

And while he is definitely some sort of sadist, I doubt he truly hates all Asians. Some people use ethnic slurs, not necessarily to display a hatred for every member of a race, but simply because they are the most effective insults against a specific individual or an ethnically exclusive subculture.

But it seems people are ignoring the date on this which is 1988. That's almost 30 years ago. At the time he was dating China Chow, that was 20 years ago.
There's no hope for the correction of racism if our convictions define the acts of racism by an individual not only as irreparable, but without rehabilitation.
I have huge problems with the idea that after 20 years into adulthood, that from acts as a teen, he couldn't have changed, let alone that after 30.

He dates Asian girls, whitewashes them, and then goes on to attack this poor Asian man for no justifiable reason. He should be happy that that man was'nt ME......
He'd be in HUGE trouble, and I do'nt mean in a legalistic way.......
Time and time again, our poor Asian sisters are falling in love with these white ghosts, these ganjin rice chasers.
Like this moron, Mark Wahlberg.
Someone should brand this statement on his a**- "Being white and dating an Asian girl does not disqualify me from being a racist."
Make the loser Jewish bastard walk naked in the friggin cold all over Chinatown with that statement branded on his a**, while all the youngbloods spit in his face andf knock his head all over the street with fists and soles of their feet.
And when he's done wimpering and wailing over the humuliation, file a civil suit against him and sue him till he's homeless on the street like a bum.
45 days in jail isnt going to do it. More action against this fool is needed so ALL white boys get the point......
....Stop disrespecting us Asians, especially our Asian sisters. Doing so is like playing with fire.
Nuff said. |
